20. Alexander the Great Marathon

The International Marathon "Alexander the Great," which has been held annually since 2006, will celebrate its 20th edition on April 26, 2026. It combines historical roots with athletic performance; the route runs from Pella, the birthplace of Alexander the Great, to Thessaloniki. The course is considered nearly flat and therefore ideal for personal best times. The weather in the previous year, 2025, was typical for this season with pleasant temperatures – ideal for endurance runners. There is no lottery for registration: Registrations are generally possible until early April (e.g., until April 1) and are processed on a "first come, first serve" basis. The elevation difference is minimal, and the route remains mostly flat – perfect for both personal best fans and leisure runners alike.
