Marakele Marathon

Powerade Marakele Marathon – 17th Edition is set for 7 March 2026 at dawn within the stunning Marakele National Park, offering a unique opportunity to run amid the wild beauty of South Africa’s Big Five reserve. The event includes a full marathon (42.2 km), half-marathon (21.1 km), 10 km run, and a 5 km fun run. Entry fees range from R395 for the marathon to R80 for the fun run, with an additional R60 temporary license fee applicable. Organized under ASA and LIMA rules, start times are staggered: 06:00 for the marathon, 06:15 for the half, 06:30 for the 10 km, and 07:00 for the 5 km fun run. Late and on-the-day entries are possible from 04:00 on race day, and pre-race registration happens on 6 March from 15:00–18:00. Runners will traverse dramatic terrain, climbing toward the Waterberg cliffs—home to the world’s largest Cape vulture breeding colony—offering both a physical challenge and breathtaking natural sights. All proceeds support conservation efforts in Marakele National Park. Amenities include medical support, hydration stations, bag storage, and race merchandise, with accommodation options available both in the park and nearby Thabazimbi.
